What seems like ages ago, Ashley contacted me to photograph her wedding at Hotel Nelligan in Old Montreal. What can I say. When I met her and her fiancé Steve for drinks in Griffintown, it was love at first sight! Now, a year and a half later I’m amazed at how quickly time flew from that first meeting to their wedding day on May 20, 2017.
Steve and Ashley have been together for over a decade. True high school sweethearts. Their lives were already beautifully joined together before the wedding – their families knew each other, they shared friends, and they were already living a life together. Married, for all intents and purposes, except for that little piece of paper making it all official.
Their wedding at Hotel Nelligan in the heart of Old Montreal was more about celebrating the strong relationship they’d spent more than ten years building than it was about christening a new one. Their wedding was also a way of thanking the people around them for supporting them through the years, and trust me, their tribe is strong, vibrant, and chock full of incredible characters (which made my job really fun).
Hotel Nelligan and Montreal’s 375th.
Of course, Montreal is celebrating its 375th anniversary this year and in true form, on this gorgeous spring day, the old port was packed with people. Rather than fight against the crowds, I decided to use them for parts of the shoot. The street in front of Hotel Nelligan is one of the busiest son Old Montreal since it’s just a block away from the Notre Dame Cathedral. On that day. Collectively, we owned that street! No one could stop us.
Later on, I made sure to take Ashley and Steve out of Hotel Nelligan so we could roam the streets of Old Montreal and take evening shots, too. Not just for the pictures. But so they could take a breath, pause, and have some space to reflect on an incredible day before it too passed by in a flash.
Congratulations, Ashley and Steve. I was so happy to be part of your wedding and I wish you the best as you continue your journey together – I have a handful of new friends in Montreal thanks to you! As soon as I have some free weekends, we’re definitely getting together for beers and barbeques.
I’m always at my best when there is a great team that comes together. I want to thank Richard Pham for being an incredible second shooter (I included some of his incredible work below). I also want to thank Kat from Deka events for bringing together a great group of vendors and making the day run extremely smoothly. Check out the links below!
We also had an incredible engagement shoot earlier in the spring that you can check out here: Golden Light in Hudson Quebec
