Mariana and Anthony contacted me about a year ago to photograph their wedding at the Forest & Stream Club in Dorval, Quebec. I’d heard of the venue before, and I had seen some epic pictures of its historic buildings and gorgeous grounds. I was stoked to get the opportunity to shoot there.
Add in the fact that Mariana‘s Mexican background meant there would be some spicy salsa dancing throughout the day, and I was easily sold. I mean, I always love being a wedding photographer but getting to shoot the gorgeous Forest & Stream Club plus salsa time on the dance floor? This was ideal!
Mariana and I go way back to when we were both in Montreal pursuing opera singing and I did her headshots. (Yup, I used to be an opera singer. For real. Check out my bio here if you want to know more about this secret life ;).) When I first photographed her I remember being totally blown away by her energy and positivity. I mean damn, this bride and a bunch of her family run marathons – I can only imagine how much mental strength that takes! I knew she’d be the perfect bride as we geared up for the big day.
Given her personality, it didn’t surprise me that Mariana managed to find someone just as awesome to marry. Anthony is a true gentleman, in all senses of the word. He has deep values that are rooted in human decency and respect. He knows good restaurants because he’s worked in some of the best Montreal has to offer.
He’s also one of those people with an infectious smile and contagious laugh (something he definitely got from his mother). I couldn’t stop smiling around these two, and I had an amazing time with both sides of the family.
Just as I expected, shooting at the Forest & Stream Club was nuts and there was a ton of salsa dancing. I’m actually not sure who was happier that night, me or the bride and groom 😉
One of the most touching moments of the wedding was when Mariana‘s family dedicated a dance to her late grandfather. Mariana danced with her brother; her grandma with an uncle. Her parents danced together and her grandma’s face said it all. You could feel the emotion in the room. It was a really thoughtful tribute to a great man.
Surprise Aria before the first dance
Finally, Mariana surprised everyone by performing an aria (song) for Anthony. She was absolutely incredible – I honestly don’t know how she sounded as good as she did, I would have peed my pants from the pressure. Performing for hundreds of strangers is one thing, but all of your closest friends and family plus your new husband? That’s gotta be harder than a marathon.
As always, I can’t say enough about the vendors who were involved with creating this gorgeous Quebec wedding. From all the staff at the Forest & Stream Club to the team that was working on florals from Bell Jar Botanicals, it was amazing. Everyone was super relaxed and in the moment. Just the way I like it.
